PRINCIPALS
MESSAGE: Aug. 30, 2004 |
Off and Running
We had a great start to school last week. Students came back
excited and eager, and the teachers put that energy to good
use. All told, 334 students helped the new school year start
off with a bang.
To help students get off to a great start, grade level assemblies
were held for seventh and eighth graders last week. Teachers
reviewed academic and behavioral expectations and helped motivate
the students to start the year off strong. Sixth-grade teachers
have been helping orient students with discussions in homeroom.
A class assembly for the sixth grade is scheduled next week.
Among other topics, we reviewed the school dress code. We reminded
students that clothing must be school appropriate. This means
no drug or alcohol references, bare midriffs, spaghetti straps,
or short skirts. When shopping for clothes for school and when
helping your child get ready for the school day, remember to
keep the dress code in mind.
We also reviewed the Academic Honesty Policy, which can be found
in the Binder Reminder. I encourage you to sit down with your
child and read through the policy so that you are both familiar
with it.
Back-to-School Night
Back-to-School Night is Tuesday, September 7, from 7:00 to 8:30pm
with a special 6:45pm start for zero- period band parents.
Throughout the evening you will learn about grade level programs,
course expectations and content standards. Starting at 7:00pm,
you will follow your child’s schedule, moving from class
to class and hearing from their teachers. Your child will bring
home a copy of their schedule on that Tuesday so you will know
where to go. Remember that there will not be time for individual
conferences, but you may be able to schedule a meeting with individual
teachers for a later date. In order to preserve the new blacktop,
parents will not be able to park on the blacktop behind the school.
Use the Piper Park parking lot.

PTA GENERAL MEETING
Tues., Sept. 7 • 8:30pm, Hall Library
There will be a general meeting of the PTA following
Back-to-School night on Sept. 7. We will distribute and vote
on the proposed budget for the new school year. Please stop by
the Hall Library at 8:30pm.
— Rebecca Sarokin, PTA President
“WEST SIDE STORY”
All Hall students are invited to be in West Side Story, a
musical about young love and conflict between two gangs in New York
City in the late 1950s. Sign up in the school office
for a Casting Date (either Sept. 9 or 10). There will also
be optional Workshops this Thursday and Friday after school — a
great time to learn about the play and the parts available and
to practice reading lines to prepare for the Casting.
Students need to sing a song of their choice, but they don’t
need to have a dance or scene prepared. Everyone who comes
to a Casting Date will be in the play. There is a performer’s
fee of $65, but scholarships are available to anyone who needs
it.
Here is the rehearsal schedule:
— The full cast will come on Fridays from 3:30-5:30pm.
— The main
characters will come to rehearse scenes and solos on
Tuesdays from 3:30-5:30pm.
—
From November 3 until the performances
(Nov 19, 20 & 21),
there will be more and later rehearsals. The full schedule
is available and will be given out at the first rehearsal.
— contact
director Becky Reed if
you need a copy of the rehearsal schedule sooner, or if you have
other questions
