PRINCIPALS
MESSAGE: Sep. 13, 2004 |
THE OFFICE STAFF NEEDS
TO ACCOUNT FOR YOUR CHILD’S WHEREABOUTS DURING THE
SCHOOL DAY. Call the absentee line each day your
child is absent for any reason and for any length of time.
The absentee phone number is 927-6956 (before
8:40am). Put this number where it will be handy when you
need it. |
Thanks for Coming Back to School
Last week’s Back to School Night was a great success. The
buzz around the school was very positive, with parents excited
to meet their children’s teachers. The parent turn out
was great and the rooms were filled beyond capacity, despite
the high temperatures.
The PTA meeting afterwards was also very well attended. PTA
president Rebecca Sarokin is doing a great job in her first year
as president. The annual budget was approved unanimously, providing
much needed financial support to the school. The PTA has supported
classroom teachers in a variety ways, ranging from field trips
to technology in the classroom. Your membership in PTA is an
essential component of the successful educational program at
Hall.
Lunches and Messages
A number of students seem to be leaving the house without their
lunches. Perhaps it is the warm weather, or perhaps it is their
unwavering focus on doing well in class that has caused students
to neglect to bring their sustenance to school. In any event,
it is important that families understand the procedure we will
follow in the office to connect students with their forgotten
lunches.
If a student forgets their lunch, it is their responsibility
to come to the office at recess or the beginning of lunch to
see if it was delivered. In order to minimize classroom disruptions
and distractions, we will not deliver lunches or notes about
their lunches to students. Remind your child to check in at the
office if they happen to forget to bring their lunch to school.
Leaving Early
The policy on students leaving early is also designed to minimize
disruption in the classroom and office. If your child has an
appointment and needs to be picked up early, he/she needs to
bring a note from you before school to
the office. The office
will then issue a pass for her/him to get out of class at the
desired time along with putting that information into the daily
attendance sheet so all teachers are aware beforehand. Any
child being picked up by another adult other than their parent
needs to have a note from the child’s parent giving permission.
Absentee Line
Lastly, it is very important that if your child is absent for
any reason call the absentee line that day
before 8:40am at 927-6956. If we do not get
a call, we have to contact you to verify the absence.
Morning Tardies
On a related note, there have been an increasing number of students
arriving late to school in the morning. Excuses are often times “traffic” or “mom
had to stop for coffee” or “my alarm didn’t
go off”. These are not excused tardies. Any child who
receives 4 or more unexcused tardies in a quarter will receive
a detention. Please make every effort to have your child at
school on time. Thank you for paying attention to these important
policies.
Recognition Corrections
Last week we recognized Honor Roll and Principal’s List
students from the fourth quarter of last year. Due to a computer
error in calculating GPA, several students were inadvertently
omitted from the list or placed on the
wrong list. The following students have earned acknowledgement
based on their academic performance. I applaud them for their
work and apologize for the error.

are listed on the online
PDF version of the Hall Weekly Bulletin. —ed.]

STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS
Election Day: Thurs., Sep. 23
Election day is Thursday, September 23. Please check the calendar
section for important dates.
CHALK-A-LOT FAIR
Friday, Oct. 1, 3:15-5:00pm • Hall Blacktop
The annual Chalk Fair held at Hall Middle School is coming
up soon. Bring your family, friends and neighbors. The blacktop
has plenty of room! Mark your calendar for Friday, October 1st,
3:15-5:00pm right after school. Spread the word!
In addition to sidewalk squares for chalk drawings, there will
be music, food (chocolate included!), drinks, face painting, and
other fun. This is a community event for all ages, so bring along
family, friends, and neighbors. We’d
love to have you and your art, with your own special style.
We’re looking for volunteers!
•
If you are
interested in helping, sign up at the Chalk-A-Lot volunteer table
at Back-to-School Night or contact Leigh Estes.
• If
you are a local artist, or know a local artist who would like to
participate and help inspire the youth chalkers, contact Bean Dubin.
•
Finally, if you have extra chalk (large or small) to donate from
the San Rafael festival or elsewhere, please drop it off at the
Hall office in the cardboard box marked “Chalk-A-Lot.”

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL
Voting deadline: Friday, Sep. 17
We have one position open on Hall’s School
Site Council this year, and parent Sheri Yu volunteered
her time. Although there is only one candidate, we must officially have an election
for this office, so take some time and cast your ballot below and turn it into
the Hall office. The deadline to cast your vote is Friday, September 17.
“WEST SIDE STORY”
Parent meeting: Tuesday, Sept. 21, 7:00pm • Hall
Library
Casting is complete for “West Side Story”, and it’s
going to be a wonderful show! Everyone in the cast needs
to come to rehearsal this Friday from 3:30-5:30pm. And
at least one parent of each performer needs to come to
the Parent Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7:00pm in the Hall
Library.
Every parent must volunteer, so think about which volunteer
position(s) you’d like to sign up for: coordinator of
costumes, advertising, cast party or clean-up, set designer,
prompter, costume sewer, rehearsal assistant or worker at the
performances (ticket sales, etc). Plus each parent
must sign up for a shift as dressing room
chaperone, so bring
your calendar. And, bring your checkbook — the performer’s
fee is $65 (scholarships are available), plus there are some
inexpensive costumes that we will order for you.
If your child
didn’t audition but would still like
to be in the show, it’s not too late — just come on
Friday. And, if they auditioned but haven’t heard which part
they got, contact Becky Reed.
