PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: Sept. 27, 2004

On the Campaign Trail

As I write this message the school is gearing up for the Election Assembly on Thursday. By the time you read this, the speeches will have been given and the new Student Council Cabinet will have been named. This election has been an impressive display of student action and energy. The candidates have actively sought out the input from other students and have worked hard to identify the key issues that face students at Hall. This week I have worked with Art Nelson and Carolyn Pruden, the teachers in charge of Student Activities, to approve campaign materials and hear speeches. Throughout the process the students have demonstrated creativity and originality in their posters, stickers, slogans and speeches. On the eve of the assembly I can honestly say that all of our candidates are winners. They all chose to become involved and to offer themselves for the benefit of their peers. I commend their commitment, their activism, and most of all, their bravery. I am confident that the school will be well served with such a plethora of high caliber candidates.

Come Chalk With Us

The Hall Chalk Festival will be this Friday at 3:30 p.m. It is a great family event when children can draw, enjoy music and food, and see the work of accomplished artists. I hope you will bring the whole family and partake all of what the event has to offer. It’s also an opportunity to experience our new field and play structure when you are not drawing.

Magazine Subscriptions

Monday, October 4th will be the annual QSP assembly which kicks off the magazine subscription fundraiser for the year. If you were thinking of

subscribing to a magazine, wait until next week so that your subscription can support the school and earn your child some nifty prizes. The proceeds of the fundraiser go to Student Council and finance all of their activities for the year. It is the only fundraiser for the Student Council for the year, so order early and order often. Remember that magazine subscriptions also make fine gifts and require no shopping at all. You can have your holiday shopping done in October!

Filming Wraps Up

With the end of the Student Council election comes the end of the documentary filming. Not surprisingly, our students are naturals on camera. Having a camera crew here is like holding a mirror up to the school – a very detailed mirror. This mirror has captured the energy, optimism and spirit of our students. I can’t wait to see the finished product (which will take at least a year) and see our school on the big screen.

Thank you to all of the teachers and students who managed even with the inconvenience of having a crew on site. And thank you to the film crew – first, for choosing us to film, and second, for allowing our students to tell their stories, share their hopes, and be themselves. You can come back anytime.
