PRINCIPALS
MESSAGE: Oct. 11, 2004 |
Chalk-A-Lot a Huge Success
Friday, October 1 was the annual
Chalk-A-Lot Festival at Hall. The event was an overwhelming success
in every way. More students than ever came to the event and enjoyed
the festivities. The Hall band and ‘Til Dawn entertained
the participants as they drew, played and ate. It was wonderful
to see Hall and Neil Cummins students creatively expressing themselves
with chalk. We have quite a few artists among us.
This event could not have happened without the amazing work
of Leigh Estes and her core team of parent volunteers - Jean
Suliteanu, Dany Phillipes, Jenny
Schwartz, Rebecca Paul-Chayra,
and Sheri Yu. These sixth grade parents took on their first middle
school event with great enthusiasm, efficiency and humor. I also
want to thank Garth Schooler, Eladia
Leddy, Gina Servina, Anne
Doyle, Ann Morrison, Scottie
Spurzem, Jeannie Perry, Dede
Underwood,
Cindy Charles, and Shari
Tracy, and Liz Krakow who gave their
time and energy to making the event so successful. I truly enjoyed
the planning and setting up process with these parents and look
forward to working with them again in the near future.
Get Your Magazines Here!
The annual QSP magazine fundraiser
kicked off last week with an energetic assembly. This is the
only fundraiser the student council does all year, and the proceeds
comprise the entire student council budget. With the discounted
prices for magazine subscriptions, it is a great time to renew
or purchase a new subscription.
The first turn-in day is Thursday, October 14. Students who
sell fifteen subscriptions by that day will be eligible for a
Laser Tag party. The homeroom that sells the most subscriptions
will win free Jamba Juice and play against the staff in a kick-ball
game at lunch. To motivate the kids further, if the students
sell $45,000 worth of subscriptions, Mr. Nelson will come to
school dressed as a chicken. If they sell $50,000 I will be dressed
as a gorilla. Luckily, the ballerina costume was unavailable.
District GATE Meeting
A district GATE informational meeting will be on Tuesday,
October 12 at 7:00pm in the Neil Cummins staff lounge. Come join
us if you have any questions about the GATE program or if you want
to serve on the newly created GATE committee. If you are wondering
if your child qualifies for the GATE program, please call me
at 927-6978 x2252.
Site Council Update
The School Site Council met last week and
identified the Action Plan for the school for the year. The SSC
is comprised of administration (Daniel Norbutas), teachers (Dianna
Smith, Eliott Rodgers, Heather
McPherson), classified staff (Jane
Shapiro), parents (Bill Sibbern, Meg
Stiefvater, Sheri Yu), and
students (Sam Arabian, Danny
O’Donnell,
Karl Straube). This team identifies the Action Plan for the school
and allocates state funding to support the plan. This team also
prepares and manages the parent and student survey in the spring.
The following is the Action Plan for Hall for the 2004 – 2005
school year:
- Promote a positive school environment in which students
are emotionally and physically safe and secure.
- Foster a high level of student achievement by providing
rich educational experiences for students.
- Provide support for students at risk of not meeting standards,
- including English Language Learners, special education students,
and other students at risk.
- Foster staff professional development by providing growth
opportunities.
