daffodil groupNo work day on Wednesday, 11/10. Instead we will work on Wednesday, 11/17 to prepare beds for daffodil planting. This will be a dig-in-the-dirt day, so bring your shovels and spading forks if you can help for an hour or two from 9am to Noon. Then, be sure and come help plant bulbs on Saturday, 11/20 from 9am to noon! We have hundreds of daffodils to plant around the school, so be there rain or shine and think how beautiful it will be in the spring. If it’s a cold wet day, come for an hour and you’l really deserve that chair in front of the fire for the rest of the day!

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: Nov. 15, 2004

West Side Story
The annual fall musical opens this Friday. I know I am excited to see our students sing, dance and act. The cast and crew have been working long hours to get the show together. Don’t miss this wonderful play that showcases the talented students here at Hall.

Greater than or Equal to
As you are aware, Honor Roll recognition is given to students who earn a 3.5 or higher each quarter. The following students earned exactly a 3.5 for the first quarter of this year. Unfortunately, in our first year of PowerSchool student information system, we told the computer to list students above 3.5, rather than 3.5 and above. As a result several students were inadvertently omitted. We caught the problem the day we handed out certificates, so all students were recognized by their peers and me. My apologies for our error. Congratulations to the … students for earning Honor Roll last quarter – Great job!

All honor roll and principal list recipients will receive an ice cream treat at lunch this Friday.

Parent Ed: Help on Parenting
Thursday, Nov. 18 • 9:00am at Neil Cummins

The Neil Cummins PTA is excited to announce the upcoming presentation of Alexandra Mathews, Ph.D., immediately after our Nov. 18th General Membership meeting. (meeting at 8:30am in the Neil Cummins Staff Room, presentation at about 9:00am).  Alexandra will be speaking on the topic, “Optimum Parenting for Your Child’s Success & Happiness.” Dr. Matthews will discuss how parenting styles reliably and predictably affect child development and adult outcome. Come prepared to do a self-assessment on your parenting style, engage in a discussion on who in the family is responsible for solving specific problems, and learn about why family dinners matter. You may learn how to put an end to nagging (theirs and yours), teach financial responsibility to children starting in preschool, and stop short-order cooking.

Dr. Alexandra Matthews has been in the field of psychology working with children and families for 20 years. She recently spoke to the Corte Madera/Larkspur Mother’s Club to rave reviews. Come learn some parenting tips, and enjoy some snacks, too!

Warm Clothing Drive Was Hot!
A big thank you to all those who contributed time, energy and items to make the 2004 clothing drive a huge success. Ritter Center staffer Vanessa Allen was delighted when she pulled her truck up and found Hall students flexing their muscles, ready to hoist more than 100 bulging bags. She said Ritter House looks forward to the drive at Hall because of the high level of enthusiasm and participation. Vanessa was appreciative on behalf of Ritter House to leave Hall with a fully loaded truck. Each and every bag is deeply appreciated!

Thanks to Art Nelson, student council advisor, for coordinating volunteers. On hand during the chilly mornings to receive and store bags were Alana, Molly, Vera, Taylor, Lauren and Jin. Truck loaders included Sam, Danny, Karl, Shay, Katie, Lela, Rachel and Gina. Jane Shapiro, Daniel Norbutas and Rojelio Jimenez provided important behind-the-scenes support. Parent Mary Katz kept a computer tally of participating students.

And the winner will be announced next week in the Hall Informer. The class will receive a pizza party, compliments of Rotary Club of Marin Sunrise, generous sponsor of the warm clothing drive for 11 years. Thank you to club members Matt Kawajiri and Peter Mellini for helping us out with this important event!
