PRINCIPALS
MESSAGE: Jan. 3, 2005 |
Class of 2005
On January 14 the second quarter will come to an end and the
year will be half over (or half begun, depending on your point
of view). As we reach the half way point I feel it is important
to review the graduation requirements for the Class of 2005.
Listed below are the academic and behavioral requirements for
participating in all of the wonderful graduation activities.
Academic
Requirements
In order to participate in the graduation activities of Hall
Middle School, an 8th grader must successfully complete all of
the following:
• Three math projects
• ETF (Education Task Force) Literacy Portfolio
• Rube Goldberg Science Project
• Physical Education Sportfolio
• Earn a “C” or higher on the Constitution Test
Also, a student
may not have more than one “F” grade
for the year in order to participate in any of the graduation
activities.
Behavioral Requirements
Earning excessive referrals during the year can jeopardize
a student’s ability to participate in graduation activities.
6 or more referrals:
–
Ineligible to participate in Student Council
sponsored field trip
8 or more:
–
Ineligible to participate in end of the year 8th
grade activity
9 or more:
–
Ineligible to participate in 8th grade dance
10 or more referrals:
–
Ineligible to participate in graduation
ceremony
All of this information and more can be found in the Binder
Reminder. If you have any questions about the graduation activities
or your child’s eligibility, feel free to contact me. I
look forward to seeing all of the Class of 2005 in all of the
activities.
A Strong Start in the New Year
The beginning of the new year is an opportunity for a new start.
Many people take this time to make resolutions on how to live
their lives differently in the next year. Your children have
an opportunity to renew their commitment to their own education.
Within the next few weeks the second quarter will come to an
end. Encourage your children to finish the quarter strong and
start the new semester even stronger.
A specific application of
this may simply be making a commitment to come to school prepared
every day. This is a good time to help restock your child’s
school supplies. Most children probably didn’t ask for
school supplies as gifts, but the pens, pencils and binder
paper your child started with this year probably need replacing
and supplementing. Think of it as the four month tune- up.

Join the Hall Parent Book Club
Thursday, Feb. 3 • Hall Library
Hall PTA is sponsoring a “Parent Book Club” open to all who want
to learn and share. We’ve settled on a timely topic: Right from Wrong,
Instilling a Sense of Integrity in your Child, written by teen expert Michael
Riera and Joseph diPrisco. If your holiday was too hectic and you did not get
a chance to read our parent book club selection, fear not as there is still plenty
of time! We’ll be meeting Thursday, Feb.3, 7:00pm in the Hall Library for a book
discussion, facilitated by the Hall Counselor, Molly Cohen. This will be our
first meeting and it is open to all parents.
