PRINCIPALS
MESSAGE: Jan. 18, 2005 |
MathTastic!
The Hall seventh and eighth grade Mathletes teams competed in
the second county-wide competition of the year last week. This
round was marked by especially difficult problems that challenged
all of the participants (and yours truly). After all was said
and done, the seventh grade team finished tied for second place.
Congratulations to Izzy, Gigi, Jeffrey,
Hannah, Shay and Marco. The eighth grade
team continued their winning ways by finishing in first place.
Daniel, Jonathan, Caroline, Danny,
Gabe and Steven turned in another great performance.
Thank you to coaches Ms. Ahle, and Ms. Wethington for all of
the time you give to the students and how well you prepare them.
Congratulations to all of the students who participate in Mathletes – we
are proud to have you represent the school.
Kids Helping Kids
Hall and Neil Cummins students are working together to help children
affected by the tsunami by hosting a fundraising dinner at
6:00pm on Friday, January 21 in the Neil Cummins gym. After
enjoying dinner, guests will be entertained with live music.
Come join us for a fun evening. All proceeds will benefit UNICEF.
Students will also be selling bracelets to fundraise for UNICEF – more
information on those will come later.
New Technology
Thank you to the PTA for providing the Hall staff with funds
to purchase a third computer cart. This cart has a laptop and
an LCD projector. Teachers can use this cart to display student
projects or provide direct instruction. The first two carts
are in regular use, and the third one is already out in the
field. And thank you to Pauline Basaran for donating a third
set of cabling to keep the laptop and projector safe and secure.
The Mathlete in You
Here is your second chance at solving a Mathletes problem. The
rules are simple: you may collaborate with your child, but
no fair letting them do all of the work. First correct answers
submitted to me will win a lunchtime ice cream excursion. You
can email, voicemail or have your child hand deliver your response.
I hope you enjoy working on it.
The sequence of 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11… consists
of all positive numbers which are not squares or cubes. What
is the 200th term in this sequence?
