PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: Jan. 31, 2005

Science on Display
Last week we were fortunate to host twenty science teachers from Korea who came to visit science classrooms. Organized through the Lawrence Hall of Science, these teachers spent the day observing classrooms and reviewing materials. It is always a pleasure to share what we do with other educators. We were honored to have them as our guests.

Amazing Fundraiser
The Tsunami Relief Dinner hosted at Neil Cummins was a great example of a community coming together to help those in need. The kitchen was buzzing with students from Neil Cummins and Hall, parents, and teachers. All of those involved seemed to have a great time doing it. Along with all of the money that was raised, it was clear that everyone’s spirits were raised, as well.

Academic Achievements
The second quarter is in the books, and we are officially past the half way point for the year. With the report cards, also comes recognition for those on the Honor Roll and Principal’s List. These students deserve recognition for maintaining excellent grades in all of their classes. Honor Roll students earned at least a 3.5 grade point average for the quarter and Principal’s List students earned a perfect 4.0. I am proud of these students for their accomplishments. [NOTE: The Honor Roll & Principal’s List are published in the full version of the Bulletin.]

Riera book coverParent Book Club
Thursday, Feb. 3 • Hall Library
Open to all parents, Hall PTA is hosting its first Parent Book Club, featuring Right From Wrong, Instilling a Sense of Integrity in Your Child, by Michael Riera and Joseph Di Prisco. Topics covered in the book include sportsmanship, cheating, emerging sexuality, illness in the family, and bullying.

“…after all, their integrity is one thing, perhaps the only thing, that can never be taken away by
anybody else.”

“…a person of integrity, like a whole number, is a whole person, a person somehow undivided.”

The meeting will be facilitated by counselor Molly Cohen and held in the Hall Library at 7:00pm. We encourage everyone to come for the discussion, even if you have not read the book!
