PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: May 23, 2005

In with the New
I spent most of last week at Neil Cummins meeting the students and parents that will be next year’s sixth grade class. It was a great opportunity for me to get to know, albeit very briefly, many of the students who will be joining us next year. The incoming sixth graders impressed me with their questions and their eagerness to come to Hall. I know our current sixth and seventh grade students will welcome them to the Hall community. I look forward to working with our new students and their families for the next three year.

The Auction Glow
Last week’s Foundation Auction was an amazing experience. I love the way the auction brings the community together in support of the schools. The Hall teachers were out in force at the auction, serving beverages and socializing. We were all impressed and touched by the outpouring of support that came from our parents and local businesses. Your generosity and support mean so much to the teachers. I know the teachers who attended truly felt supported by everyone at the event.

Hall Spring Music Concert: An Old-Fashioned Concert in the Park
Thursday, May 26, 7:30pm • Hall gym

Band membersThe Hall Music Department presents “An Old-Fashioned Concert in the Park!” featuring the Intermediate Band and Advanced Band, plus the new Cougar Choir and the debut of the “Jazz Cats” jazz band!  It all happens this Thursday evening at 7:30pm in the Hall Gym.

We invite you to take a musical journey back to a time when families and friends gathered together on an afternoon to picnic and enjoy the sounds of the town band. Our stage and environs will be transformed into a beautiful Victorian gazebo, complete with flora and greenery, thanks to the set design talents and imagination of Eladia Leddy, parent and creative artist.

The program will offer a wide variety of music including music from the Baroque era to the Broadway stage and the silver screen.  You’ll get to “Meet the Band” as we spotlight the various sections of the ensemble: “TWA (Trumpets with Attitude!),” “Flute Flirtations,” “Cool Blues for Saxophones,” “Mallet Mania” (percussion feature) and “Trumpet Voluntary.”

The Advanced Band will pay tribute to its graduating eighth grade musicians by featuring solos by Claire, Jonathan and Kara. (Claire will also be our special guest conductor for “Trumpet Voluntary.”) Not to be outdone, the Cougar Choir will feature a number of soloists on its selections, the popular “The Time of Your Life,” Irving Berlin’s “Alexander's Ragtime Band” and everyone’s Broadway favorite, “Do, Re, Me” from “The Sound of Music.”  We hope you and your family will join us this Thursday evening at 7:30pm.
