PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: May 31, 2005

Top of the Class
After reviewing academic records for the last three years, I am proud to announce the valedictorian and salutatorians for the class of 2005. These four students earned A’s in all of their classes at Hall Middle School. This year’s valedictorian is Danny and the salutatorians are Brett, Caroline and Gabe.

Band Changes
In order to allow seventh and eighth grade students to have more band and PE every week, we will pilot a new program next year. Seventh and eighth grade band students will be taking PE four days a week (not Wednesday) as a zero period class. They will then all have band first period five days a week. This will allow us to provide more PE and more band time for students. I appreciate the feedback I received from students and parents about the plan, and look forward to hearing from you as the year progresses.

UPCOMING EVENTS
There are a great many events planned for the few remaining days of school.

Friday, June 3:
• Please join us, if you are able, between 8:00 and 9:00am in the Neil Cummins staff room for a Superintendent Farewell to honor retiring Superintendent Bob Cone. He has served this district so ably, first as principal at Hall Middle School, and for the past two and a half years as superintendent. His leadership will be missed! Come by at your convenience to thank Mr. Cone for all he has done on behalf of our children, and to wish him well in his retirement. Refreshments will be provided.
• At Hall, the Second Annual Students vs. Staff Basketball game will be played during an extended lunch. This game was a live auction item at the Foundation Auction. John Dunn and his hand-picked team of young guns will take on the staff team that gets older every day. It promises to be a barn-burner.

Monday, June 6:
• … is the school-wide picnic. The Hall picnic will be at the Indian Valley College pool. There will be lifeguards and teacher supervision. Food for the picnic and bus transportation will be paid for by the Student Council, which raised money from the October QSP magazine sales. Permission slips were due last week. Send in yours today if you haven’t already.

Tuesday, June 7:
• … is Graduation Rehearsal. The first of two graduation rehearsals for all 8th graders will be at 1:10pm. All graduates must participate in both rehearsals.

Wednesday, June 8, is a very busy day:
• An 8th Grade Awards Assembly will take place at 9:15am.
• The second, and final, graduation rehearsal begins immediately after.
• A graduation class portrait will be taken at 3:15pm. Students should arrive no later than 3:05pm. Individual photos can be scheduled before the group portrait. Forms for eighth graders will be sent home today in backpack mail. They are due back this Friday.
• The graduation ceremony will be at 4:00pm. in the gym. A reception at the gym will follow the graduation.

Thursday, June 9, is the last day of school:
• The Sixth Grade Awards Assembly will be at 8:45am.
• The Seventh Grade Awards Assembly will be at 9:40am.
• Eighth graders will attend a brunch in their honor at Piper Park from 10:30-11:15am.
• A graduation dance for the graduates will take place in the gym from 8:00-11:00pm.

This is truly an exciting time of the year. I look forward to seeing you at these events. Do not hesitate to contact the office if you have any questions.
