PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: August 29, 2005

Welcome Back
It seems like the Back to School commercials, much like Christmas commercials, seem to start earlier every year. I think it was mid-July when my family and I were in Ocean City, New Jersey visiting family that I saw the first ads about going back to school. These ads have always evoked the same emotional responses – first sadness at the impending end of summer, and then excitement and anticipation of reuniting with old friends. As I moved from student to teacher to administrator, these feelings have stayed the same. I am excited about the start of this school year. The staff has been back for several days, and you can feel the energy in the air. At our faculty meeting and Staff Development Day last week we analyzed our STAR test data and discussed ways to help all of our students meet state standards.

More New Families
We have experienced significant growth over the summer. Student enrollment now stands at 368 students – up from 336 last year. Our new students come from as close as Ross and as far as Iran. We are glad to welcome you as part of our learning community.

This Friday a New Student Lunch will give all of the new students an opportunity to meet one another and learn more about Hall.

New Staff
Three new staff members will be providing support to students this year. Scott DeFalco will be a resource teacher in the Learning Center. Christine Shields will be the new district psychologist. She will split her time between Hall and Neil Cummins. Tim Murch will join us as our speech and language therapist. These new staff members bring great experience and energy to Hall.

Use the Circle
To ensure student safety, it is important that parents use the Drop-Off Circle in the morning and after school when driving their children to and from school. Do not drop your students off near the district office or in front of the main office. This creates traffic for students walking from the bus stop and for staff attempting to park.

Site Council
There are still vacancies on the Hall School Site Council for parent representatives. The council is composed of parents, students, teachers, classified employees and the principal. The council’s purpose is to continually improve the educational experience for students at Hall. If you would like to know more about being a parent representative, please call Sheri Yu. Parents are elected to the site council, and our election will take place on the evening of Back-to- School. If you would like to be on Site Council, please let me know.
