PRINCIPALS
MESSAGE: Sept. 19,
2005 |
Timeliness
If, as Woody Allen opines, 80 percent of success is showing up,
I would venture that at least 85 percent of success is showing
up on time.
Now that the school year is under way, and everyone has had a
chance to adjust to the new start time, I want to provide a gentle
reminder about tardies. Most significantly, tardies negatively
affect the learning of your child and the other students in class.
With class periods of only 47 minutes, class activities begin immediately
after the bell. When a student enters class late, they miss important
announcements and instruction. Tardy students also disrupt the
flow of class as it begins, distracting other students and the
teacher. Arriving on time for commitments is also an important
life skill that we are trying to foster at Hall.
While all of this probably isn’t news to any students or
parents, the fact remains that tardies still occur. The school
policy outlines the consequences for excessive tardies. At the
fourth tardy in one class during the quarter, students will earn
a detention. Additional detentions are earned for each subsequent
tardy in the class for the duration of the quarter. This can result
in a large number of detentions quite quickly. This can then result
in students being placed on the Behavior Inactivity list. See your
Binder Reminder for more information.
Election Day Approaches
The Fall Student Council Elections are this week, culminating
in the election assembly this Friday at 11:30am. This is the time
of year we learn what is on the minds of our aspiring student leaders,
and what issues they will take to their constituency. It is an
exciting time of year. Each new cabinet brings new priorities,
energy and enthusiasm to student leadership. I look forward both
to the process and the outcome.
