Chalk Festival
The annual Chalk-a-Lot Chalk Festival
was a rousing success last week. Under
the backdrop of a beautiful Friday
afternoon, students and parents from Neil
Cummins and Hall came together to listen
to music, eat food, play games, and most
importantly, draw on the ground! Scores of
children and adults created unique chalk
expressions on the blacktop while being
entertained by a variety of musical acts. Ken Brungess directed
the Advanced
Band in an excellent debut performance.
Former students, Roger Krakow and
Ricky Meir brought their bluegrass band
back to Hall for a rousing performance.
Rounding out the musical performances
was Trolley Squad, featuring Andrew
Hove and Andrew Stahl.
A huge thanks goes out to Jennifer
Schwartz and Dany Phillipes for
organizing this year’s event. They did an
amazing job of bringing together parent
leaders and overseeing all of the facets of
the event. If this were a Trump
“Apprentice” challenge, they would
definitely have immunity next week.
The parent cadre of leadership was
equally impressive. Peggy Cross organized
pre-chalk festival events and
posters; Dany Phillipes organized food,
raffle prizes and face painting; Liliana
Guttierez handled digital photography;
Antionette Snyder helped with posters
and publicity; Ann Doyle lent her graphic
artistry; Linda Baron handled “aerial”
photography; Matt Berg managed the
musical acts; Liz Krakow managed all of
the community service volunteers; and
Chuck Numbers kept the little ones entertained
with his pumpkin toss game.
Leigh Estes returned to Hall to lend
her expertise and effort.
Providing additional support were
Cindy Charles, Susanne Conneely,
Rhonda Giannini Hart, Jila Faili,
Armelle Futterman, Claudia
Vasquez, Jeannie Perry, Claudia
Gropper and Sheri Yu.
This event was successful because of
the efforts of these wonderful volunteers.
Thank you for giving your time
and energy to help continue a great
tradition. The students, parents and
staff who attended enjoyed the fruits
of your labor.
