Mathletes Continue Winning Ways
Both of the Hall Mathletes teams
turned in impressive performances at
the first county competition. The
eighth grade team finished the first
round tied for first place and the
seventh grade team is currently tied
for third. Our Mathletes meet weekly
to work on math problems and
develop strategies to solve new
challenges.
This year I am continuing a tradition
from last year – the Family Math
Challenge. Below you will find a
math problem from the most recent
county competition. I encourage you
to work on the problem as a family. A
little time talking about math beats
the television any day of the week!
When you have your answer, email,
phone or hand-transport your answer
to me. The first five families who
respond will be eligible for a
lunchtime trip to Baskin Robbins for
ice cream.
We’ll start the year off with an easy
one:
Three teas and two muffins cost
$3.11. One tea and one muffin cost
$1.32. How much is a muffin?
Canned Heat
The Canned Food Drive is heating up.
Homerooms are competing to collect the
most cans to donate to the Food Bank. It
is interesting to watch students from each
homeroom closely guard their can totals.
As a school, we are also competing
against Redwood High School to collect
the most cans. The net result of these
competitions is a large number of cans
being collected and given to those who
need them. It is great to see the kids put
energy into helping other people.
