MESSAGE: Dec. 12,
2005 |
Students of Steel
In the last Bulletin I commented on all
of the great work that went into preparing
our students for the musical, Man
of Steel. Now that I have had the opportunity
to see the play I add my
praise for the remarkable performances
of our students. Our students
were simply wonderful and inspiring.
They sang, played music and acted
their hearts out. The Hall Jazz Band,
under the leadership of Mr. Brungess,
made the music come alive for the performers.
Our children have so many
sides to them and they never cease to
impress me with their courage, creativity
and humor. It is a treat to see them
take on new challenges, grow and express
themselves. The hours of hard
work that they put into rehearsals was
evident from their performances. It was
top notch in every aspect.
Independent Study Policy
The Independent Study program has
been adopted to enable students to
receive academic credit in situations
that require an absence from school.
An independent study agreement is
not intended to be a substitute for attending
class; it is an alternative designed
to meet emergency family
needs.
Independent study between 5 and 10
consecutive days may be designed
that extends the current course of instruction.
The school must receive a
request for independent study 48
hours prior to the dates of the absence.
All completed work must be
delivered the day that the student returns
or no grade will be given for the
work. Parents have the responsibility
to monitor and verify completion of
assigned tasks. If the student fails to
complete the assignments, independent
study will not be given in the future.
It is the responsibility of the student to
obtain missed assignments for unexcused
absences.
The Superintendent may approve the
participation of students requesting
independent study for a period exceeding
10 consecutive school days.
Students who have unexcused absences
greater than 10 consecutive
days who do not have an approved
independent study agreement will no
longer be enrolled in the district. Reasonable
effort will be made to re-enroll
students in the same class if they return.
November Students of
the Month
Every month grade level teachers at
each grade identify two students for
the positive impact they have had on
the classroom. These Students of the
Month stand out for their positive attitudes,
relationships with peers and
adults, and their contributions in and
out of the classroom.
