PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: Jan. 17, 2006

Sixth Grade Chat
I was covering a sixth grade class last week and had a wonderful conversation with the students. We talked about using the drop off circle in the morning and after school, the need to stay out of hallways and lockers during lunch, and most importantly, the fifth grade move to Hall next year. I was impressed with the thoughtfulness of the questions that the students asked about the move. They had a very clear sense of what issues arise when moving a grade from one school to another. They asked about the new building, the lunch schedule, the bell schedule, field and play structure usage, and specialist time. The sixth graders were excited about the fifth graders coming over – as long as they don’t get lockers or get to go to dances.

Reconfiguration Task Force
The Reconfiguration Task Force meets next on Thursday, February 2nd at 7:00pm in the Hall library. Each of the subcommittees will report out on their progress. I invite anyone interested, including sixth grade students, to attend the meeting and participate in the work of the task force.

Mark Your Calendars
I know it is far in advance, but I want you to be aware of the STAR testing dates for this spring so that you can ensure that your children are present. We will be testing students the week of April 24 and the week of May 1. We are planning on testing in the morning and having shortened classes for the remainder of the day.

Students of the Month
Congratulations to the following students who were awarded December Students of the Month. They are being honored for their positive attitudes, relationships with peers and adults, and their contributions in and out of the classroom. They are:
- 8th grade: Luana & Roshan
- 7th grade: T.J. & Shannon
- 6th grade: Lindsey & Austin
They will be rewarded with a trip to Baskin-Robbins with a friend this Friday at lunch.
