PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: Apr. 3, 2006

shovelGround-Breaking Ceremony Today
Work on the new wing at Hall will begin today. We are all excited about the work that will be done and the new classrooms and offices that will be at Hall for the fall. The construction at the drop-off loop will include eight new classrooms, two offices and two student restrooms. We will commemorate the start of the work with a ground-breaking ceremony today at 3:30pm in the drop-off loop. Please come join us as we celebrate the beginning of the project.

Hall Summer School
The Larkspur Summer Academy (LSA) will provide summer school for Hall and Neil Cummins students. Due to the construction at Hall, all of the classes will be held at Neil Cummins. LSA classes will be open to students most in need of summer help, as nominated by their teacher. LSA will only be for students who are academically “at risk” in math and/or language arts. Teachers will soon send home a letter to the parents of eligible students. LSA will run from Tuesday, June 20th to Friday, July 21st (5 weeks), and will only be Tuesday through Friday each week. School will be from 9:00 to 12:00, with a 20-minute break. Lunch will be available. Note that Ross Valley Summer School will be held at Bacich this year, while Corte Madera Parks and Recreation’s “Summer Playground” and “Camp EdventureMore” will be available on or near Neil Cummins Campus. Our LSA principal will be announced soon. Until then, send all questions to Mr. Carvey at ccarvey@marin.k12.ca.us or 927-6965 ext.1269

Thank You, Foundation
We are excited to showcase a new sound system at Hall Middle School. Whether your child goes to Neil Cummins or Hall Middle, this is a great purchase and I am very pleased that we will all benefit from it. We are happy to have two mounted speakers, new microphone inputs, amplifier and CD player. The new system will improve a range of activities in the gym, including plays, musical performances, graduation and assemblies.

The original request for the sound system was submitted by me during last year’s “Raise the Paddle” fundraiser at the Corte Madera Larkspur Schools Foundation Spring Auction. Thanks to the generosity of the families in our community, we were able to raise the funds necessary to make this purchase.

Special thanks go to Bruce Amos and Kit Warne who were instrumental in the research, purchase and installation of the new sound system. Musical productions and band performances will sound even sweeter!
