PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: Apr. 24, 2006

STAR Testing Begins Today
Students will begin taking the annual state testing known as STAR today. STAR stands for Standardized Testing and Reporting Program and is administered to public school students from second to eleventh grade every year. California content standards tests cover language arts and mathematics for all students, and science and social studies for eighth graders. Seventh grade students also take nationally norm-referenced tests. The tests yield individual, grade and school-level results. This summer you will receive individual results for your child. The grade and school-level results are analyzed every year by the staff. The data help us to identify areas of strength and areas of need for departments and grade levels, as well as providing critical individual student data.

Students will test in the morning with their homerooms, and then will attend all six classes each day. A copy of the testing schedule is included in today’s Backpack Mail. Make-up testing will be available at the end of each week for students who miss any tests. [GET testing schedule]

Help your children to perform their best by making sure they are well rested and have a healthy breakfast each morning. Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions about STAR testing this year at Hall.

Parent Orientation
Last week we held parent orientation nights for the incoming fifth and sixth grade parents. Both events were well attended. If you could not make the meeting and you would like the information that was presented, please go to our website. There you will find links to a FAQ for each of the two grade levels, as well as many of the handouts. [SEE handouts]

Honor Roll and Principal’s List
The third quarter has come to an end and we are closing in on the end of the year. The following students deserve special recognition for their outstanding academic achievement during the quarter, earning either Honor Roll or Principal’s List. Congratulations on a remarkable performance! [SEE full lists in PDF version of this week’s Bulletin]
