PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: June 12, 2006

A Remarkable Year
This has been a remarkable year. A considerable amount of energy has gone into planning for next year. The staff has worked hard to outline the academic program for the fifth grade, determine staffing needs, address facilities issues, determine budgets and work to ensure that the incoming students and staff feel included in the Hall family.

While we have worked on planning for next year, we have not overlooked this year by any means. The teachers at Hall have continued to challenge and support your children, to provide rich educational experiences and to help them to grow academically, physically and socially.

Our students continued to earn awards and recognition. We sent three representatives to the state Word Power championships, our 8th grade Mathletes team earned a second-place finish, and the sixth grade Odyssey of the Mind team placed second in the regional competition. In addition to that, our advanced band recently won Gold Rating at the Forum Music Festival.

Parents also gave their time and energy in support of our students. Through the generosity of our PTA and parent community, we had a successful Chalk Festival, sixth grade pumpkin carving, and an Earth Day activity for sixth graders where they cleared non-native flora from King Mountain. Our hot lunch program has continued to grow and provide students with more choices than ever before. Parents also drove students to field trips to a synagogue, mosque, Chinatown and Point Reyes. This year marks the end of the two-year term of PTA president Rebecca Sarokin. She has been an amazing president who has supported the instructional program at Hall through her hard work.

Our students actively participated in a variety of activities that supported the community. Homerooms gave their time, energy and resources to the warm clothing drive, Adopt-a-Family, canned food drive, Pennies for Patients and letter writing to soldiers in Iraq.

This year also marks the retirement of a very special teacher. Ms. Thuesen is retiring after over thirty years in education. She is an icon of Hall Middle School and a constant support for students and staff. She is truly one of a kind.

All in all, I would have to say it was a pretty great year. I would like to thank all of the students, teachers and parents who have helped to make it so successful. I hope you all have a relaxing and rewarding summer. I look forward to seeing what next year has in store for us.

Grades and Bills
Students who have outstanding bills for books or locks, or have overdue library books will have their report cards withheld until the bills are paid or books returned. Report cards will be mailed on June 23. If you have any outstanding fees, you will be mailed a letter detailing missing materials instead of a report card. Make sure all materials are returned this week to avoid any delay in receiving your child’s report card. The office will be open from 9-4 until June 21.

Scheduling for Next Year
We are in the process of building the master schedule for next year. Sixth and seventh grade parents, please contact the office as soon as possible if your child will not be returning to Hall next year. This information will help us build balanced classrooms. Thank you for your cooperation.

Next Year Particulars
The first day of school will be Tuesday, August 29. Students can pick up their schedules, purchase a Binder Reminder and PE uniform the day before, on Monday, August 28. The office will open August 15 if you have any questions or concerns. I will also be available through the end of June if you need to get in contact with me.
