MESSAGE: August 28, 2006 |
Welcome All !
The classrooms in the new wing are done and we are open for business! We have had a remarkable spring and summer of construction. Eight new classrooms are open in the new wing, as well as two new portables out back. The sixth and seventh grade restrooms have been improved, as well. Landscaping work and the clear roof of the new wing hallway still remain to be completed. We will be working on those this fall, making sure the work does not interrupt instruction.
The staff has been back for several days, and you can feel the energy in the air. At our faculty meeting and Staff Development Day last week we worked on a mission statement for the school and provided technology training for the teachers.
More New Families
Over half of our student body is new to us this year. We have new fifth grade and sixth grade students joining our returning seventh and eighth graders. We also have a number of students coming to the district for the first time. Student enrollment now stands at 482 students – up from 368 last year. Our new students come from a variety of places, ranging from Redding to Switzerland. We are excited to welcome so many new families to Hall. We know you will have a great experience here.
The WEB program, an orientation for fifth and sixth grade students happened yesterday. Our wonderful eighth grade students led small groups of new students in activities, games and a tour of campus. Fifth and sixth grade students will continue to work with their WEB groups throughout the year. Thank you to our eighth graders who came for two days of training and a day of orientation during the last days of their summer vacation. And a big thank you to Ms. Yasuda and Ms. Dahlman for organizing and running all aspects of the program.
Next Friday a New Student Lunch will give all of the new students an opportunity to meet one another and learn more about Hall.
New Staff
As I mentioned in my summer mailing, a number of new staff members have joined Hall. A number of Neil Cummins staff will be joining the Hall family this year. Ms. DeMartini, Ms. Estes and Ms. Meunier are teaching fifth grade. Ms. Lavaroni is teaching seventh grade Language Arts and Social Studies. Ms. Riedy is teaching special education. Classroom aides, Ms. Elton and Ms. Eaton will be working with Hall students, as well.
There are also a number of teachers who are new to the district. In fifth grade we have Ms. Holst, Ms. Gallagher and Ms. Knight. In sixth grade we have Mr. Crumley. Joining the PE department is Ms. Silva. Mr. Fester is teaching eighth grade social studies. Ms. Steiner is our new special education teacher. Ms. Gascon is our new Spanish and English Language Support teacher. Mr. Derby is our new music director. Student teaching this year will be Ms. Lindsay who will be working with Ms. Dahlman and Ms. Wolfe.
In the office we have a new secretary, Ms. Hafner, and a new assistant principal, Mr. Boone.
Use the Loop
To ensure student safety, it is important that parents use the Drop-Off Loop in the morning and after school when driving their children to and from school. Do not enter at the Piper Park Drive entrance. Use the entrance at the sign board or drop your students off across the street. Do not drop your students off near the district office or in front of the main office. This creates traffic for students walking from the bus stop and for staff attempting to park.
