PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: September 5 , 2006

A Great Start

We had an amazing first week of school last week.  The first day of school ran without a hitch.  Thanks to all of the parents who limited our campus traffic by using off-site options.  Remember to pull all the way up when dropping off or waiting to pick up students after school.  Continue to use only the entrance at the signboard, and never enter at Piper Park Drive.

Portrait Day

This Friday all students will have their pictures taken. These pictures will be used in the yearbook and for their school records. You also have the option of purchasing individual portraits. In today’s backpack mail you received an order form. Have your child bring the completed order form, along with a check, to school on Friday. Pictures will be taken during physical education classes for 6-8 graders, and in the morning for fifth graders.

Peanut Policy Clarified

At Hall Middle School we have several students with peanut allergies. To ensure their safety, we have designated peanut-free tables at lunchtime. Because peanut odors and residue can trigger reactions, we also have several classrooms that are peanut-free. While we don’t have a school-wide ban on peanut products,we do ask parents and students to be mindful of what they bring to school every day, and to respect the peanut-free spaces on campus. If families can substitute peanut products with other products, it will help reduce the risk of allergic reaction. I thank you in advance for your understanding and support.

Route 117 Bus Schedule

We are happy to report that between now and September 8, a single homebound bus will pick-up on the school-side of Doherty, travel through Larkspur, drop-off at the Rec. Center and end at the Town Center. During this temporary period, two eastbound buses will continue running to San Clemente Park and end at Paradise & Harbor.

Beginning September 11 our expectation is that two permanent homebound 117 routes will pick-up at Hall on the school-side of Doherty and continue on the following route: Magnolia & Ward, Rec. Center / Eastman, Tam & Madera, San Clemente Park, Paradise and Harbor

The Start of School

I was so proud to see our teachers volunteering long hours during the weeks leading up to school diligently preparing for our students. Their tasks went far beyond hanging backpack hooks and decorating walls. I observed teachers engaged in passionate discussions grounded in class rosters and the learning needs of our kids. There is a tremendous focus on learning in the Larkspur School District and I feel honored to work among this world-class group of educators.

This past week our students were filled with thoughts and emotions that we all experience during times of uncertainty and change. I observed endless smiles, laughter and students so excited about returning to school they literally could not stand still. I wish that I had a photo of every smile.
