Character Counts
While the Hall students had a three day weekend the week before last, the staff at Hall was hard at work at one of our staff development days. These days provide an opportunity for all of the teachers to spend valuable time together and improve upon what we do at Hall. We took advantage of this time to spend the day learning more about our character education program, Character Counts! We worked with a trainer from the program to examine the importance of consistent character modeling and expectations. The Character Counts! program is built around the six pillars of character. These pillars of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship are essential components of a well-rounded education.
Our work in this area connects with one of the identified goals from the Hall School Site Council. In last year’s student survey, only 47% of our students agreed that students at Hall respect one another. Our goal as a school is to make improvement in that area. The Character Counts! program is one of the ways we plan on meeting that goal.
We will continue our work with a subcommittee of teachers to develop an implementation plan so that we can apply what we have already learned. You will be hearing more information from the school and from your students regarding our program. We hope to work collaboratively with families to help students make great decisions.
