Students of the Month
Every month grade level teachers at each grade identify two students for the positive impact they have had on the classroom. These Students of the Month stand out for their positive attitudes, relationships with peers and adults, and their contributions in and out of the classroom. We honor these students by sharing their names with you in the Bulletin, giving them certificates in their homeroom, and then taking them for a lunchtime field trip for goodies. This week we will honor the Students of the Month from both October and November. Congratulations to each of these students whose effort has had a positive impact on the classroom.
A Spirited Thanks
If you have ever been on campus on a Friday, you have probably seen our wonderful staff decked out in Hall Middle School polo shirts. The generosity and hard work of the PTA, spirit wear coordinator Leigh Estes and spirit wear creator, Dan Ahern are deeply appreciated by the staff. We are all proud to work at Hall, and now we have another way of showing that pride.
Math Olympians
This is the first year of Math Olympiad at Hall. Fifth and sixth grade students meet after school on Tuesdays to work on challenging math problems and learn new math and problem solving skills. Last week the Math Olympians took the first of the five monthly math contests. Two students, Kayla Bronzo and Robert Pearce turned in perfect scores, answering all five questions correctly within the time limit. Congratulations to all of the Olympians who have taken on this challenging opportunity.
Below is one of the problems from the most recent contest. Periodically, I offer these problems as a vehicle for family problem-solving. I feel they provide great dinner table discussion. Submit your family’s answer to the following question and you will be eligible to win a lunchtime ice cream excursion. Two correct responses will be chosen at random for a dessert run with me during lunch. So send your responses by email, phone or student messenger!
Asha has some $.40 stamps and some $.30 cent stamps. She has 5 more $.40 stamps than $.30 stamps. The total value of her $.40 stamps is $5.20 more than the value of her $.30 stamps. How many $.40 stamps does Asha have?
We continue to field Mathletes teams for seventh and eighth grade students. They had their first county-wide competition last week. Next week I will give you an update on how they did and offer you a Mathletes problem, as well.

Cougars Flag Football Team Finishes Season with a Roar
The Hall Cougars Flag Football Team completed an excellent first season with steady improvement through the last game against Marin Primary. Our team played hard, never gave up and exhibited great sportsmanship and spirit. Most important, we had fun!
Thanks to all parents who drove to games and cheered on our kids. Finally, big thanks to Chris Samet and Doug Silva for stepping up to coach this first season. THE COUGARS ARE BACK!
