MESSAGE: January 8, 2007 |
Class of 2007
On January 19 the second quarter will come to an end and the year will be half over (or half begun, depending on your point of view). As we reach the half way point, I feel it is important to review the graduation requirements for the Class of 2007. Listed below are the academic and behavioral requirements for participating in all of the wonderful graduation activities.
Academic Requirements
In order to participate in the graduation activities of Hall Middle School, an eight grader must successfully complete all of the following:
-
All three Math Projects
-
ETF (Education Task Force) Literacy Portfolio
-
Rube Goldberg Science Project
-
Physical Education Sportfolio
-
Earn a “C” or higher on the Constitution Test
Also, a student may not have more than one year-end grade of “F” in order to participate in any of the graduation activities.
Behavioral Requirements
Earning behavioral referrals during the spring semester can jeopardize a student’s ability to participate in graduation activities.
Referrals during the spring semester |
Consequence |
Four or more |
Ineligible to participate in end of the year 8th grade activity |
Five or more |
Ineligible to participate in 8th grade dance |
Six or more |
Ineligible to participate in graduation ceremony |
All of this information and more can be found on page 5 of the Binder Reminder. If you have any questions about the graduation activities or your child’s eligibility, feel free to contact me. I look forward to seeing every student of the Class of 2007 participate in all of the activities.
A Strong Start in the New Year
The beginning of the new year is an opportunity for a new start. Many people take this time to make resolutions on how to live their lives differently in the next year. Your children have an opportunity to renew their commitment to their own education. Within the next few weeks the second quarter will come to an end. Encourage your children to finish the quarter strong and start the new semester even stronger.
A specific application of this may simply be making a commitment to come to school prepared every day. This is a good time to help restock your child’s school supplies. Most children probably didn’t ask for school supplies as gifts, but the pens, pencils and binder paper your child started with this year probably need replacing and supplementing. Think of it as the four month tune up.
