Pooling Together
While it may feel a little early to talk about end of the year activities, I wanted to share some information about these important events.  First, for our members of the graduating class of 2007, we have sent home a letter outlining all of the graduation-related activities and the requirements for student eligibility.  If you did not receive the mailing or if you have any questions about the awards assembly, graduation ceremony or graduation dance, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

One of the events of the last week of school is the annual end-of-the-year pool party on Wednesday, June 13.  This school-wide event is coordinated and financed by the Hall Student Council and their annual magazine subscription drive.  During the event the entire school spends the day at Indian Valley College (IVC), enjoying the use of their Olympic-sized pool, grass area and tennis courts.  The elected members of the Student Council Cabinet and the homeroom representatives from each classroom met to discuss the question of fifth grade students attending and participating in the event.  The Cabinet members met with me to discuss their reasons for wanting to include the fifth grade in the day.  They spoke eloquently about their desire to maintain school cohesion and to keep the student body together.  They genuinely wanted to have all students participate in the day together. I was impressed by their desire to spend the day with students from all grade levels and not have two separate events.  In further meetings with the students and with the PTA, I have decided to honor the wish of the students and move forward in planning on having the entire student body enjoy the day together. In order to ensure that the day runs smoothly, I have met with Cabinet students and PTA representatives to put some procedures in place.  At IVC we will have a schedule for grade level use of the pool and field. Fifth and sixth grade will enjoy organized activities on the grass while seventh and eighth graders have use of the pool.  Then we will switch so that each grade level gets time at each venue and so that student usage of the facilities is balanced.  To cover supervision and student safety, half a dozen trained lifeguards will be on duty during the day and over twenty-five teachers will be there to supervise.

While we move forward with our planning, I welcome your input on this event.  Please give me your feedback so we can help this event be a great way to end a wonderful year.
