Detailed month-by-month District Calendar

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: October 13, 2003

September Students of the Month
Every month grade level teams identify two students for each grade level to honor as Student of the Month. Students are selected based on their hard work, relationships with staff and students, and positive impact on the classroom environment. Along with the certificate they received from me in their homeroom class last week, Students of the Month are treated to an ice cream excursion with a friend and a staff member of their choice. Congratulations to the September Students of the Month!
8th: Olivia & Ryan
7th : Samantha & Robert
6th : Emma and Shay

Staff Development
While students were enjoying a three-day weekend, the staff spent last Friday hard at work. Teachers worked collaboratively in grade level teams and in departments to coordinate curriculum, implement standards and share successes. Teachers also spent more time analyzing and discussing STAR test data from last spring and using the data to inform their instruction this year.

A Very Hall Moment
At the Chalk-A-Lot Festival last week I was lucky enough to observe a moment that illustrates what is so special about Hall students. The day of the Chalk Festival was also the last day of school for a student who was moving back to her hometown after having only been here for a month. Unbeknownst to her, a group of her new-found friends had worked diligently to create a collage of images and wishes in chalk for her. When they finished, they walked her out to their creation with her eyes covered, and then surprised her with their work. Needless to say, she was moved by their loving expression, as was I. These students never fail to impress me.

Temporary Employment Opportunity
Neil Cummins and Hall are looking for someone to fill a crossing guard (at Neil Cummins) and yard supervision (at Hall) position; this is a temporary position to cover a medical leave starting at the end of this month. The Neil Cummins portion of the position is from 7:45-8:45am (M-F) and 2:15-3:30pm (M, T, Th, F), 1:30-2:30pm (W). Yard supervision at Hall occurs from 12:30-1:30pm. This could be a shared position. Please call Becky White (927-6960 x3206) for further details.

Chalk-a-lot participantTHANK YOU “Chalk-A-Lot” FESTIVAL PARTICIPANTS!
Many thanks to all those who attended the 10th Annual Hall Middle School Chalk Festival Friday afternoon. Students, the PTA, families, neighbors, friends, teachers and staff made this a wonderful street painting extravaganza for all. A special “Thank You” is sent to all the volunteers who dedicated their time and skills towards making the “Chalk-A-Lot” Festival a success! Your support and enthusiasm was wonderful!
