PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: October 20, 2003

Respect and Responsibility
Originating from a staff discussion last Friday, the staff and I have begun new activities to increase student respect and responsibility on campus. In homerooms each class is using character education portion of their binder reminders to discuss respect, responsibility, reliability, motivation and other important behaviors. The overall goal is to improve and enhance student behavior on campus.

I went to every sixth grade homeroom last week and will visit seventh and eighth grade homerooms in the next two weeks. My goal is to build upon the activities in the homerooms and discuss how students can apply those character traits throughout the school day. I discussed respect in terms of respecting the school, the staff and other students. With regard to respecting the school we talked about keeping the campus free from litter. Students were encouraged to keep the campus beautiful and to do their part to have a positive impact on campus cleanliness. In terms of respecting staff, I reiterated the need for students to act in a respectful manner towards all staff members, including support staff like crossing guards and yard supervisors. And finally, we talked about appropriate behavior during recess and lunch, focusing on keeping the campus safe by staying out of the halls.

I invite all parents to sit down with their children and discuss the character traits outlined in their binder reminder. With the collaborative work of teachers, administrators and parents, we are confident we can help our children to grow to be responsible young adults.

Let’s Sit and Chat
In August I met with many of the incoming sixth graders and their parents in order to get to know the students and families entering Hall. I enjoyed the process so much I am like to extending the offer to all other students and families at Hall. If you are interested in sitting down with me and your child before or after school for an opportunity to get to know one another better, please call me at 927-6978 x2252 or email at dnorbutas@marin.k12.ca.us to schedule a time.

QSP Rolls On
Last Thursday was the first turn-in date for magazine subscriptions. Students who submitted orders walked away with a variety of trinkets and treats. The final turn-in date is this Thursday, October 23. Students who submit twenty or more orders will be eligible to participate in a Laser Tag activity where they can finally take aim at the principal.
