MESSAGE: November 24, 2003 |
This week we take a moment to congratulate Hall students engaged
in several different competitions.
Mathletes
The Hall Mathletes team competed in the first of four competitions
last Tuesday. Over one hundred and fifty middle school students
from around Marin gathered at San Jose Middle School in Novato to
test their math prowess. It was inspiring to watch the students,
especially after each problem. The entire gym would be alive with
discussion and debate about the answer and the best way to find
it. These kids were animated and excited about math.
The sixth graders got their first competition experience and had
a great time. The seventh grade team turned in an inspired performance,
earning a tie for first place.
Bert Pankler did an excellent job preparing the
students for the competition. His team of sixth and seventh graders
have been meeting after school every Tuesday to practice and problem-solve
together. At the Mathletes competition Bert also served as the emcee
and managed the competition from beginning to end. Guiding one hundred
and fifty middle schoolers through ten challenging math problems
in a competitive environment is no mean feat.
Hall Middle School Mathletes Team is Thomas, Alison, Mariana, Daniel,
Jonathan, Andrew, Jeffry, Caroline, Danny, Gabe, and Steven.
Spelling Bee
After a “Spell-Off” earlier last week, two students
emerged as the representatives of Hall Middle School for the upcoming
Spelling Bee.
Carolyn and Gabe outspelled the field and will work with Heather
McPherson to prepare for the Spelling Bee.
Volleyball
Congratulations to the eighth grade Hall girls who competed in the
CYO A Division volleyball season. Many of these girls played together
for the last several years and have distinguished themselves with
their performance.
