Bike Security
Recently we have had a couple of bikes stolen from the bike rack.
The security of students’ possessions during school is a high
priority of the school. To that end I am working collaboratively
with Twin Cities Police, the district office, and the Hall staff
to ensure the security of bikes parked on campus.
Twin Cities Police have included the Hall bike racks as part of
their regular patrol. Last Wednesday their patrol revealed that
nine of the bikes parked on campus were not locked to the bike racks.
Most of these bikes had chains and locks on them, but their owners
did not take the time to lock them to the racks. It is imperative
that students lock their bikes. Unlocked bikes are an invitation
to theft.
I have also been working with the district office to redesign the
layout of the bike racks. The plan is to move the racks closer to
the school and to place them behind a locking fence. Some landscape
work will need to be completed before we can finish this project,
but we hope to have this bike cage installed in the spring.
I have communicated these issues to the staff and have asked the
day custodian to keep an eye on the area during the day.
Hall Parents Excel in Math
Last week I shared one of the Mathletes
problems and offered ice cream to the first two families who
responded correctly. I was very impressed by the number of parents
who called and emailed their responses. I was even more impressed
by the number of parents who got the correct answer of 6-1/2 tomatoes.
Now I feel confident I can include even more challenging problems
in the future. Congratulations to Rebecca Kaplan
and David Bronstein who edged out other parents
with their timely solutions. If everyone’s schedule permits,
we will venture to Baskin-Robbins with your Hall students on Wednesday,
March 10. Thanks to everyone who participated. Look for the next
problem in the coming weeks.
