PRINCIPALS
MESSAGE: March 22, 2004 |
Emergency Preparedness
In today’s backpack mail you will find a flyer regarding the
Disaster Drill scheduled for April 7 at Hall. On this day, schools
around the county will be conducting drills to improve disaster
preparedness. The Hall Safety Committee, in conjunction with the
staff, is planning on participating.
In order to assess the effectiveness of our student release procedures,
it is imperative that all families participate in the drill. If
you cannot pick up your child, please make arrangements with someone
on your emergency card to do so.
School drills underscore the need for families to have clear emergency
plans as well. If a major disaster were to occur, would your family
be prepared? Do you have a disaster supply kit? A designated meeting
point or contact person? An evacuation plan?
You can learn more from the Red Cross about disaster preparation
at their website www.prepare.org.
Marin County Office of Education also provides valuable emergency
services information at www.marinschools.org
Field Construction Begins
Contracts have been awarded and work is set to begin on the new
fields at Hall. Starting today, crews will put up fencing around
the area that will become the new fields. This joint project between
the Larkspur District and Larkspur Park and Recreation will create
an all-weather, artificial turf soccer field and softball diamond.
It will provide a great educational and recreational resource to
the school and to the community. The plans call for the field to
be completed before the start of school next fall. Work will commence
today and continue this spring and summer. While a portion of the
blacktop will need to be fenced off to accommodate construction,
we will endeavor to limit its impact on student activities during
physical education, recess, and lunch.

Hall 7th Grade Mathletes Take Second
Place in County Tournament
Congratulations to the Hall Mathletes team for their
second place finish in the 2003-2004 countywide
mathematics competition. Seventh and eighth grade teams from 12
Marin County public and private schools participated in the tournament,
approximately 125 students. At the seventh grade level, Marin Country
Day School edged out Hall for a first place finish, and Del Mar
took third place. The Hall team finished in second place in round
4 of the tournament on March 16, and placed second in the overall
standings. The Hall Mathletes are to be congratulated for the dedication
and spirit they brought to both the team practices and the tournament
play. Well done, team!

Beautification Day Update
On March 10, we planted in front of the old entrance
(circle area) on Saturday with a dedicated and energetic group of
volunteers (as always!). Take a look at the magnolia, westringia,
phormium, society garlic, and the agapanthus donated
by the Roth family.
Thank you to all our fantastic gardeners! Thank you, Jeff Winkler,
Ramiro Gonzales, Rogelio Jimenez, and Cesar Gutierrez, for being
so supportive of our efforts and taking care of the plants after
we put them in the ground.
Watch the bulletin for details on the next beautification day. Several
families have donated plants — if you have anything that’s
deer resistant and relatively drought tolerant that you’d
like to donate, contact Maija at maijanorstad@yahoo.com.
