MESSAGE: May 3, 2004 |
The Book of Lunches and Forgetting
An increasing number of students
seem to be leaving the house without
their lunches. Perhaps it is the warm
weather, or perhaps it is their
unwavering focus on doing well in
class that has caused students to
neglect to bring their sustenance to
school. In any event, it is important
that families understand the procedure
we will follow in the office to connect
students with their forgotten lunches.
If a student forgets their lunch, it is
their responsibility to come to the
office at recess or the beginning of
lunch to see if it was delivered. In
order to minimize classroom
disruptions and distractions, we will
not deliver lunches or notes about
their lunches to students. Remind your
child to check in at the office if they
happen to forget to bring their lunch to
school.
The policy on students leaving early is
also designed to minimize disruption
in the classroom and office. If your
child has an appointment and needs
to be picked up early, he/she needs to
bring a note from you before school to
the office. The office will then issue a
pass for her/him to get out of class at
the desired time along with putting
that information into the daily
attendance sheet so all teachers are
aware beforehand. Any child being
picked up by another adult other than
their parent needs to have a note from
the child’s parent giving permission.
Lastly, if your child
is absent for any
reason, it is very important that you
call the absentee line that day before
9:00 am at 927-6956. If we do not get
a call, we have to contact you to verify
the absence. On a related note, there
have been an increasing number of
students arriving late to school in the
morning. Excuses are often times
“traffic” or “mom had to stop for
coffee” or “my alarm didn’t go off”.
These are not excused tardies. Any
child who receives 4 or more
unexcused tardies in a quarter will
receive a detention. Please make
every effort to have your child at
school on time. Thanks so much for
paying attention to these important
policies.
