MESSAGE: May 10, 2004 |
STAR Orbits Hall
In its annual cycle, STAR testing has come and
gone at Hall. Over the last two weeks Hall students have taken
over nine hours of state-mandated testing. I was impressed with
their effort and focus during the tests. I also want to commend
the teachers for administering and supervising each test in the
morning and then deftly teaching their courses for the balance
of the day. While the test results will not be available until
the summer, proof of the energy, drive, and flexibility of the
Hall students and staff were evident in the taking of the tests.
Hall
Open House
Come to Hall on May 13 to enjoy Open House. It is
a great opportunity to see student work in a variety of subject
areas. Classrooms will be open from 7:00 to 8:30pm for you
to visit. At Open House you will be able to enjoy the music
of the school band, see a Physical Education demonstration in the
gym, and see student work including science projects, African
masks, literacy portfolios, and other classroom projects.
A
special event is planned for the students and parents of the incoming
sixth grade class. Starting at 6:00pm in the gym, we will
have an orientation that includes student and adult speakers.

SAFETY REMINDER from PTA:
On behalf of the principal, I want to remind
parents about traffic patterns during drop-off and pickup times.
ENTER the school driveway BY THE SIGNBOARD, and TURN LEFT to approach
the drop-off circle. When you reach the drop-off circle, pull as
far forward as you can and let your passengers off by the curb.
Do not let them exit the car until you have stopped safely by the
curb.
When you enter the driveway by the signboard,
do NOT turn right, and do NOT drop off or pick up your child
by the Hall Office, the 6th grade wing, or the gym. Many
6th grade parents are dropping off and picking up their students
here, presumably because it is near the 6th grade lockers. This
practice creates safety concerns. The driveway next to the 6th
grade wing is reserved for special education transportation and
student use of the crosswalk to and from the bus stop. The parking
lot next to the gym is not designed for student pickup or drop-off.
Tell your student to meet you at the drop-off circle, at the
old front of the school. Please remember that safety concerns
take precedence over convenience.
To avoid
congestion at the drop-off circle, consider meeting your child
in the Albertson’s parking lot, or form a carpool with your
neighbors. Better yet, have your child take the bus or bike or
walk to school, now that the nice weather is here.
