Young and Old

Last week the students and staff of Hall Middle School celebrated Halloween together. The sixth graders carved pumpkins the Friday before, thanks to the help of the PTA and the sixth grade vice presidents. On the big day students and staff dressed up in a variety of costumes. The fifth grade staff made a perfect royal flush and the office staff looked to Rome for inspiration.  Many teachers also followed the recommendation of the student council and dressed up as the subjects they teach.  Egyptian gods and noble gases taught classes and for the first time ever I witnessed someone dressed as a run-on sentence.

Our students’ costumes included pirates, fairies, hippies, athletes, princesses, cowboys and more.  Halloween is a time for fun, creativity and spending time being someone or something else.  I am always happy to see scores of students dressing up.  It makes the day that much more fun.

While we always endeavor to provide rigor and work to continually move our students forward, watching children enjoy the thrill of “dress up” reminds us to always meet them where they are.  And while school should always be challenging, it should also be fun.  To that end, our goal is to prepare them to be adults while still allowing them to be children.

5th/6th Grade Spring Musical

Please come for coffee and a brainstorm/planning meeting to discuss the Spring 5th/6th grade drama production.  We need to gauge parent involvement to make this a reality.  Contact Ellen Turner 924-4464, ellen.turner@comcast.net or Amy Friedricks 927-7273, afriedricks@comcast.net with questions.    Meet at Amy’s house, Wednesday, November 14 at 9am.   6 Crystal Creek, Larkspur. Without your help this show won’t happen.

Team Basketball at Hall

You can play basketball right here at Hall!  No tryouts are necessary -- just sign up in the Office or contact Andy Boone and you will be hitting the hoops for the Hall Cougars.  Details on practices will be forthcoming after this week's organizational meeting with other participating middle schools.  Thanks to Hall Staff Steve "Jammin' Jumper" Johnston, Amanda "Easy Shot" Estes and Jeff "Dangerously Dribling" Derby (subject to managing his music schedule) for stepping up to the rim to coach!

THIS WEEK - Warm Clothing Drive for Ritter Center

Help the community stay warm and dry this winter and earn one hour of community service.  In addition, a name will be picked at random from the warm clothing participants and the winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to Book Passage (Courtesy off Marin Rotary Sunrise).  Flyers with attached community service forms were distributed to the students last week.  Additional forms can be obtained from the office. Please complete the information on the community service forms and bring the bags to the drop off loop any morning THIS WEEK.  On behalf of Ritter Center and with co-sponsorship of Marin Sunrise Rotary, the Hall PTA Community Service committee and Student Council will be collecting items at the drop off circle.  We appreciate your participation. Questions? Email communityservice@hallpta.org or contact any of the community service members.
