8th grade
RUBE GOLDBERG PROJECTS

Do you remember Rube Goldberg machines — those overly-complicated contraptions that involved a whacky chain of events in order to accomplish a (usually) mundane task?

During the spring of each year, Hall’s 8th graders complete a “Rube Goldberg” project of their own. Each machine needs to utilize six basic machines working together to complete a useful task.

See if you can identify how the six machines are used in each of these featured projects! The machines used are:
• Inclined/declined plane
• Lever
• Fixed pulley/moveable pulley
• Screw
• Wheel & axle/offset wheel & axle
• Wedge

FEATURED PROJECTS from 2002:
More movies to choose from! Please be patient when waiting for these streaming movies to download. To see these movies on your Mac or PC, you will need the latest version (v6) of Quicktime, a FREE plug-in (available here if you don’t already have it).

FEATURED PROJECTS from 2001:
These projects were filmed in action under less-than-ideal conditions at Open House night. Please be advised that they are a bit noisy! To see these movies on your Mac or PC, you will need Quicktime (these movies will work with version 4).
