Henry C. Hall Middle School PTA EXECUTIVE BOARD MINUTES

Meeting of Thursday, February 17, 2000
1:30 pm • Hall Library

Meeting called to order at 1:30 pm.
Board members present: Alexandra Cock, Bob Cone, Donna Kilian, Lindsay McCrea, Robin Moller, Becky Reed, Debra Ziegler.
Board members absent: Rosanne Clifford, Kathie Cummins, Anne Gilberg, Kathy Grey, Robin Hamilton, Mary Sue Murray.

  1. PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
  2. MINUTES
MSP to approve minutes of January 20, 2000.
  3. TREASURERS REPORT — see attached report.
    • 2/7/00 Income less expenses (since 7/1/99): $7,859.29
    • 2/7/00 Account balance: $12,076.93
    • The Treasurer’s report included a sheet showing the budget passed 9/99 and spending to date. This report was requested at the Jan. meeting.
  4. PRESIDENT’S REPORT
    • Old Business
      • Parent Education: Three meetings held in January and February with Dr. Carr were very informative. Similar to STEP classes. Dr. Carr donated his fee back to the PTA to be used for what was determined to be necessary — Mr. Cone chose to put it into the scholarship fund.
      • By-laws: Alexandra reported that they have been approved by the State PTA. We must approve them at our next meeting, which will be after Open House on May 16th at 8:30pm. PTA members must have 30 days notice, so Robin will put a note in the Hall Weekly Bulletin now.
      • Career Day: Scheduled for February 25th. (See attached brochure.) Very well organized.
    • New Business
      • Emergency Food Supplies: Supplies in shed out of date. Maryam Ebke bought replacement supplies for Hall when she ordered them for the Neil Cummins PTA. Unfortunately the Hall portion cost about $500, which was not authorized and is not in the PTA budget. Discussion included reference to the District’s having (logically) paid for this in the past. Bob and Lindsay will talk to the District and the NC PTA about paying for it this year, and will bring to the District’s attention that it needs to budget for it in the future.
      • Parent Ed: Grants are available from the State PTA for program development. When the parent ed chairs from the RHS feeder schools get together next year to plan their cooperative parent ed programs, they could apply jointly. Lindsay will look into the program to find out when the applications must be made.
      • Next Year’s Slate of Officers: Time to start thinking about it. Lindsay will email list to board members.
      • Bond: The District is looking for someone to chair a bond measure on June 1st. The resolution must be passed in early March. The bond program is to be run by a professional, so the task will be recruiting more than inventing.
  5. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
    • Spring Writing Sample: Coming soon. Sixth and seventh grade will be scored countywide. The eighth graders will be scored by the school, because the ETF doesn’t score 8th graders.
    • Marlene Basuino: Passed away on February 14th. She and her family have appreciated the cards and flowers. All are invited to participate in her service. The teachers are thinking about creating a memorial picnic area outside her office window.
  6. OPEN DISCUSSION
    • PTA Positions: PTA has positions on the ballot measures. Lindsay will put a reference in the bulletin and have them posted on the PTA page on the LSD website.
    • PTA Convention: Will be in Long Beach May 4–7. Let Lindsay know if you’re interested in attending.
    • Historian’s Report (tally of hours): Due by June 1st.
    • CML Schools Foundation Open House: March 7th at Michael’s Wine Bar.

Meeting adjourned at 2:15 PM.
Next meeting: March 16, 2000 at 1:30 PM, Hall library.
