1:15pm • Hall Library

Meeting called to order at 1:25pm.
Board members present: Ann Arabian, Bob Cone, Treasurer Kathie Cummins, President Anne Gilberg, Kathy Grey, Lindsay Mead McCrea, Robin Moller, Mary Sue Murray, Jeannie Perry, Becky Reed and Debra Ziegler.
Board members absent: Alexandra Cock
Guests: Ginny Hooper & Linda Wolfe

  1. PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
Regular meeting time will be 1:15–2:15pm on the third Thursday of each month, with some exceptions.
  1. MINUTES
MSP to approve Executive Board minutes of May 18, 2000.
MSP to approve general meeting minutes of September 5, 2000.
  1. TREASURERS REPORT (attached)
    • 8/31/2000 Starting balance:

    $11,311.74

    • 8/31/2000 Balance due David O’Keefe Co. for picnic tables:

    $4,327.30

    • 8/31/2000 Equity:

    $6,984.44

    • Picnic table cost last year was $619 per table. Only $565 this year!
    • Have not yet paid any counseling intern stipends.
    • Second mattress for nurse’s office is complete. Robin will call Stoich Designs and ask them to invoice PTA the $200 authorized for this project last year.

  2. PRESIDENT’S REPORT
    • E-mail: updated list.
    • Lunch Program: needs more volunteers. Seems to be a lack of “ownership” for the lunch program. Salad day looks like it may be a problem.
    • Chalk Festival: will be similar to last year’s, with activities taking place on the lawn. Mary Eaton is organizing some contests (hula hoop!), bagpipers, Hall bands, a capella group. Posters out soon. Still need parents for 2-hour shifts, food chairperson. Food covers the event costs. Anne Gustafson and Kappy Reed will be working on a mural of downtown, which others may work on, too.
    • Magazine Sales: Assembly October 12. Sales provide $10,000–$12,000 for Student Council activities. Sandi Schaefer and Kathy Julian are chairing, need people to tally and count on October 17, 20 and 26 from 8:00am until 10am or 12noon.
    • 8th-grade Graduation: Laura Hill may chair with Mary Sue Murray. Graduation is June 13 at 4:00pm at Redwood High School, with the dance that night, and brunch the next day. Anne Gilberg will find out where the disco ball is.
    • Membership Update: $3,500 budgeted; $2,155 has come in.
    • Parent Ed.: Good presentation by SAFE parents and students. “Hug and kiss and sniff, be a snoop.” Signs of substance abuse: changes in behavior, friends, grades. Be aware, look out for each other’s kids, talk! SAFE kids will come talk to PE classes. Hall students have been asked to “identify your adult.” Encourage kids to keep their friends safe (different from tattling).
    • Dance Chaperones: First dance is October 27, 7:00–10:00pm. Jeannie Perry is in charge of getting chaperones. Other dances: February 9, April 6 or 27.
  1. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
    • Thanks for volunteering!
    • $9,000 is in site budget.
    • New teachers: Camilla Manning (8th-grade Language Arts), Heather Henderson (8th-grade math), Eliott Rodgers (computer lab).
    • Fall writing samples next Monday (5 point rubric).
    • Math: next Wednesday Trish Mihalek, Ted Stoeckley, Bert Pankler, Nancy Donovan & Lisa Ferguson will be attending a state program about improving math scores. Then they’ll spend five afternoons with all teachers reminding them of their math skills. The new state standard has 100% of 8th graders taking algebra.
    • Progress reports will be mailed September 29.
    • Election Assembly tomorrow. 8 offices. Student Council meets at 7:45am Thursdays in Ted Stoeckley’s room.
    • Lunch Program: Carol Johnson will be certified as a food handler. The school will subsidize the PTA lunches of the prepaid lunch students.
    • School picnic is June 8 at Hamilton. In lieu of an 8th-grade picnic, students will go to “Physics and Science Day” at Great America ($25 each).
    • Ice cream treat tomorrow for students who read at least three books over the summer.
    • October 12, 5:00–8:45pm: phone bank at CTA office for “no” on vouchers. Call Susan Boley for more information.
    • Board of Trustees reception for new teachers at the Perry’s house next week.
  1. OPEN DISCUSSION
    • Presentation of Hall Site Plan by Mike Slater. Described site plan. Groundbreaking scheduled for June 15, 2001. (demo library—will be inconvenient next school year.) Ambitious timeline. Plans must be to state architect by November 21. Great relationship with City of Larkspur.

Next meeting: Thursday, October 19, 2000 at 1:15pm.
Meeting adjourned at 2:35pm.
