- FACILITIES UPDATE Mike Slater
Mike reported that there is a new state funding program for districts
cooperating with cities on improvement projects. Will find out if we
qualify in April, funding should be in July, perhaps $750,000 for Hall
and/or NC. Recent San Mateo bids were for $305/SF. Our estimates were
$200/SF. Have identified alternates on the existing plans,
are considering phased construction at Hall (media center),
deleting Kindergarten building at NC.
Structural comments expected from the state architect next Thursday.
- TREASURERS REPORT
No report.
- PRESIDENTS REPORT Anne Gilberg
- Parent Ed – Doing it in conjunction with other RHS
feeder districts. Not well attended. Hold meetings in daytime? Incentives
to attend? Advertise again that we are consolidating it with other
districts. Suggest people attend with a friend.
- 7th Grade – going on Chinatown tour. Artist-in-the-school
project is Chinese brush painting. I-search has begun.
- 6th Grade – made valentines for senior home. Going
to the Exploratorium. Special day class going too.
- Nominating Committee – Needs committee people and slate.
Call Lindsay with suggestions.
- PTA Convention – in April, in southern California.
- PRINCIPALS REPORT Bob Cone
- Valentines Day – thanks for the 6th grade valentines,
and for the chocolates for the teachers (Mary Sue Murray, Anne Gilberg,
Rosanne Clifford, Kappy Reed.)
- Honor Roll Social – many students missed it due to
many flu absences (10% absent daily!), so they offered it on two days.
- Special Day Class – Ok to go visit. Working to integrate
them more into the classrooms: library, field trips, homeroom, PE,
dances.
- Suicide – occurred last Monday near Sloat. Bob spoke
with each class about it.
- Peer Resource Students – from RHS were here today to
meet with interested 8th graders. Discussed sexual harassment, getting
along with peers, etc. Great program. MSP for PTA to provide pizza
and sodas next time they come.
- Vector Drama Class - Just starting. Not well attended. Kids
heavily scheduled, and overlap with NADA drama class?
- Yearbook Pictures – to be taken on 2/27.
- Read Across America Day – on 3/2. Student council kids
will read to NC students.
- Capitol Focus – March 4-6. Susan Boley will take 16
students, who had to write an essay to attend. Cost $200. Learn about
government.
- Washington, DC Trip – Not school sponsored. Cost $1400.
MSP to allocate $800 from scholarship fund to 3 needy students.
- OPEN DISCUSSION
- Auction – coming in May. Bob suggested that the committee
get a donation form to teachers, offered front row graduation seats.
- Next Dance - May 4.
- 6th Grade Social – 5/25 or 6/1, all handled by student
council.
- Summer Dance – Larkspur Rec may sponsor a summer dance
for entering 7th and 8th graders. Contact Dick Whitley to support
it.
Next meeting: Thursday, March 15, 2001 at 1:15pm.
Meeting adjourned at 2:15pm.
