Henry C. Hall Middle School PTA EXECUTIVE BOARD MINUTES

Meeting of Thursday, April 12, 2001
1:15pm • Hall Library

Meeting called to order at 1:30pm.
In attendance: Ann Arabian, Bob Cone, Alexandra Cock, Anne Gilberg, Lindsay Mead-McCrea, Robin Moller, Mary Sue Murray, Jeannie Perry, Becky Reed, and Linda Wolfe.
Absent: Kathie Cummins, Patty Doherty, Kathy Grey, and Debra Ziegler.

  1. WELCOME
  1. MINUTES
    MSP to approve February and March minutes.
  1. TREASURER’S REPORT
    No report now. Anne will review cash flow report, and then make an end-of-year expenditure proposal. 1999 tax return being questioned by the IRS.
  1. PRESIDENT’S REPORT
    Old Business:
    • Nominating Committee: (Ann, Lindsay) Slate almost filled. Focusing on filling executive board positions. Lindsay will send flyer home with updated slate. Election to be 5/17.

    New Business
    • Procedure Books: Anne will make for transferring information from one year’s board and committee chairs to the next.
    • 8th Grade VP Report: Bob sent out a letter about graduation expenses ($85) and timeline. Graduation committee will meet after spring break. Math/science day at Great America coming up. Ms. Boley is busy making quilts. Will list them in the auction catalog, ticket pull will be at graduation. Will put out a flyer in backpack mail identifying how/where to buy raffle tickets.
    • 7th Grade VP Report: “Merry Ol’ England Faire” meeting will be held after spring break. SF Shakespeare Co. coming May 7 for Twelfth Night.
    • 6th Grade VP Report: No news.
    • Historian’s Report: Report of hours coming up.
    • Staff Appreciation Luncheon: coming up on May 9.
    • PTA General Meeting: coming up at Open House on May 17. Anne will speak at new parent orientation regarding her experience as a middle school parent.
  1. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT — Bob Cone
    • Talent Show coming up on May 25, 11:50-12:50. Many acts.
    • Hall construction bids opened yesterday. Gym bid on target, but the bid balance was over. NC bids to be opened today. Board will then make choices—will hold an open discussion tonight.
    • Testing: 4/30-5/7, first two periods. Will rearrange class schedules to accommodate.
    • RHS band performed here today.
    • Scoliosis screening: Friday April 27.
    • Dance: May 4.
    • Education Program: Marin County Progressive Forum on Education on April 21.
    • Site Council Surveys: being tallied now. Students took survey too.
    • Homophobic name-calling: seems to be going on.
  1. OPEN DISCUSSION
    • 8th grade graduation dance 2002: Masonic Lodge? St. Pat’s?
    • Safe Routes to School: Jeannie will take this on at Hall, to eliminate congestion, and promote health.
    • Special Ed funding: Leslie sent email regarding effect of special ed funding on school budgets.
    • Hanta virus: transmitted through mice feces.
    • 6th grade social: date not yet chosen. Student council will handle it.
    • Summer Dance: call Dick Whitley if you’d like to see Larkspur Rec sponsor a summer dance for Hall’s incoming 7th and 8th graders.

Next meeting: Thursday, May 10, 2001 at 1:15pm.
Meeting adjourned at 2:20pm.
