- PRESIDENTS WELCOME
The meeting was called to order at 1:15pm.
- APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion was made by Becky to approve the minutes from the September
17, 2002 executive board meeting as written. This motion was seconded
by Diana. The minutes have been approved.
- TREASURERS REPORT
See attached sheet. We renewed $6,000 in a three month CD. We have
$35,000 in the bank. This figure is slightly inflated because we have
deposited lunch income, but haven’t paid the bills yet.
- PRESIDENTS REPORT
Old Business
- Chalk Festival
This was a great event, but was not well attended. We had only about
60 people. We’re thinking maybe we could have it on a different
date. There were many other events occurring on the same weekend.
Perhaps we could have it early in September after a school day,
or have it during school as an art program activity.
- Jamba Juice
We purchase 210 juices every Wednesday. Last week we sold all but
3. Its very popular.
- Membership
We are at 61% membership right now. We are aiming for 70%.
- QSP Magazine Sales
Today was the first turn in day. Friday is the second one. We have
plenty of help. All proceeds from this event benefits the student
council.
- Dance Chaperones
We still need chaperones. Let us know if you can do it.
New Business
- Grade Level Vice Presidents’ Update
In the sixth grade, we have the pumpkin carving coming up. We found
all the tools. One hundred pumpkins will be delivered to Hall by
Paradise Markets. The student council pays for the pumpkins.
- Health and Safety
Bonnie is working on the emergency phone tree. Each grade level
VP will get a packet with classroom contacts.
- P.E. Uniforms
P.E. has extra uniforms for those who forget theirs at home that
day. We need volunteers to wash these twice a week. Kathie Cummins
and Diana Putterman volunteers to do this.
- Photo Day
We need volunteers for the morning shift. We have 4 people in the
afternoon.
- Musical
Becky sent home a questionnaire about Hall students putting on a
musical performance this year. There would be an afternoon rehearsal
schedule. We would need some seed money from the PTA to start with,
and we would make it back from ticket sales. There may be some one-time
only costs. We will be charging the participants a fee between $45
and $100. This pays for things like costumes. Hall would have one
show with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders involved. At Neil Cummins, it
hasn’t been decided if it should be kindergarten through 5th
or 3rd through 5th. We want to include as many children as possible.
There is no set budget yet. We will know in November, but we may
need around $6,000 to start with.
- PRINCIPALS REPORT
- The library is getting closer to being done. The librarians are
in the room. We need to have the computers set up before we can
have students check out books. We’re hoping this will be by
November 15th, maybe sooner. We will need volunteers to help shelve
all the books and materials. We can use help anytime next week.
Call the Neil Cummins library and let them know you’ll be
coming.
- Two science labs will move on Friday. The children will be in
classes on Monday.
- The technology lab is waiting for connectivity. This may be done
by next week.
- The gym is scheduled to be ready by mid-January. It may be done
beforehand.
- Once the facilities are done, we will have a grand opening celebration.
A ribbon cutting, etc.
- Lockers are being moved back. Their mechanisms will be fixed and
they will be newly painted gray.
- Thursday, October 29th is 8th grade picture day.
- Work on the hall field could begin in September if we get reasonable
bids come in. Then we could be done by the fall.
- Superintendent Update—we will have meetings next week asking
for community input on our search for a new superintendent.
- The district applied for a solar heating project. Our district
only has to pay for 10% of the cost and the state pays the other
90%. If we get it, we would get it this summer. Our cost would be
$17,000. This would be made up in 20 months with reduced heating
bills. There has to be a curriculum in grades kindergarten through
4th, to go along with this.
- TEACHERS REPORT
Trish Mihalek is the teacher rep this year. We have a parent volunteer
to work with the children in Mathletes. He is Larry Reed. We still need
others for the geography bee, and the Science Fair.
MEETING ADJOURNED
Meeting adjourned.
