Henry C. Hall Middle School PTA GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

Meeting of Monday, November 3, 2003
8:45am • Hall Middle School

Hall PTA members present: Barbara Solomon, Kathie Cummins, Ann Arabian, Rebecca Sarokin, Susan Wirta, Mary Connolly, Chandra Zieff, Marianne Rafter, Nicole Kowalski, Armelle Futterman, Becky Reed & Daniel Norbutas.
Guests: Kathy Hartzell, Monica Bonny, Carolyn Lewis & Bob Cone.

Meeting was called to order at 8:45am by President Barbara Solomon.

Treasurer’s Report
Kathie Cummins noted the changes in income & expenses since the adoption of the budget.
She presented a revised budget that would include an additional $1,000 for Beautification, (from an original $1,000), and $8,000 to be given to the District to purchase a signboard for Hall.
Barbara Solomon asked for a motion to approve the revised budget. It was moved by Becky Reed to adopt our new budget & Armelle Futterman seconded the motion. The vote was favorable.

Principal’s Report
Daniel Norbutas gave a Hall update. Please see “Principal’s Report” from the Executive Board Meeting of October 21, 2003.

Superintendent’s Report
Superintendent Bob Cone complimented Daniel on his new and fresh ideas. He reported that the district is well positioned to absorb any midyear budget cuts.
On Nov. 18th & 19th, several board members and staff members will hold a 2 day workshop to look over our district policies.

President’s Report/Committee Reports
Becky Reed, Hall’s Bye-Bye Birdie Director, reported that a tech expert has been hired to help with the musical production. She asked for more parent volunteers & student tech volunteers. Becky would like to direct a non-musical sometime in the spring, without being paid.

Guest Speaker
Barbara introduced our guest speaker, Mary Jane Burke, Marin County Superintendent of Education. She gave a wonderful talk that included “insights into the middle schooler’s mind” & “keeping parents motivated”. She said the focus doesn’t necessarily need to be on kids doing great in school, BUT in life. She was so engaging. We all left feeling very privileged to have met her.

Meeting was adjourned at 10:22am.
