Guests: Bob Cone & Marianne Rafter.

WELCOME:
Meeting was called to order at 1:20pm by President Barbara Solomon.

MINUTES:
A motion was made by Kathie Cummins to approve the minutes from the last Executive Board Meeting on January 20, 2004. Jeannie Perry seconded the motion. The minutes were approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT:
See attached report from Treasurer, Kathie Cummins.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT — Unfinished Business:
Career Day:
Overwhelmingly successful! Wonderful feedback from students, teachers, parents & speakers. Elliott Rodgers did an excellent job accommodating student requests. A huge thank you to the chairs: Nicole Kowalski, Karen Berg, Anne Martini & Danelle Leong.

Beautification: Parent & student participation has been good at the campus clean-up days. More help is always
welcomed. Students receive community service hours. The next clean-up days are March 13, April 25 & May 22.

8th Grade Graduation: The next meeting will be March 3rd at Lori Lerner’s home. A theme has not been decided upon yet.

Hospitality: Kappy Reed is doing a phenomenal job as Hospitality Chair. She prepared some goodies for the staff on Valentines Day. The Staff Appreciation Luncheon will be Tuesday May 4th. Kappy will advertise for help.

VP REPORTS:
6th grade VPs are recycling through the Lost & Found items every couple of weeks. So far there hasn’t been much to donate to Ritter House.
The 6th grade did not make Valentines Day cards this year. Although, there is work in progress for another 6th grade activitity.

Student attendance was lower than usual at Hall’s February 6th, seventh & eighth grade dance. The “Hard Rock” theme may have turned some off. It was suggested that there be planned activities at the May dance.

Signboard: The signboard will be installed on March 15th. Barbara Solomon volunteered to be the “back up” letter changer. Rebecca Sarokin & Ann Arabian agreed to be the “official” letter changers!

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT:
There is a school board meeting tonight, Feb. 24th.

  • The 2004-05 school calendar will be approved. August 24th & June 9th are the tentative start & end dates for Hall & Neil Cummins.
  • The parcel tax expires in June 2005. A chairman is needed if a new parcel tax is proposed.
  • At tonight’s board meeting, teacher & non-classified staff salaries will be voted on.
  • A bid will be awarded for Hall’s multi-purpose playing field. The field is a joint venture with the city of Larkspur. It should be completed by the start of the next school year. It will include a full length soccer field. The old black top will be moved & replaced.
  • Mr. Cone encouraged everyone to talk in favor of Propositions 55, 56, 57 & 58 in the upcoming March election.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT — New Business:
As a spring fundraiser, it was suggested that families enjoy a meal at Baja Fresh, or Chevy’s, with proceeds going to PTA’s Beautification committee. These fundraisers, with a percentage of the bill going to the school, can bring in $400 to $500 dollars in one day.

PARLIAMENTARIAN REPORT:
Parliamentarian, Jeannie Perry, is beginning the process of filling Hall PTA board positions for 2004-05. Daniel Norbutas & Jane Shapiro will help Jeannie by serving on the nominating committee. Board members, Rebecca Sarokin, Liz Krakow, Susan Wirta & Ann Arabian volunteered to serve on the committee as well.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:

  • Mr. Norbutas reported that Hall’s technology teacher, Bob Montes, assembled a grant proposal for “Best Buy’s Children’s Foundation”. Best Buy awarded Hall a grant for $2,500 for its “creative & innovative use of technology to make learning fun”. The money will be used to purchase a second mobile LCD cart to supplement the one already purchased with PTA funds.
  • Taiwanese teachers & administrators visited Hall before the February break. They were very impressed with what they saw.
  • There was a fire alarm issue before the February break. The first time the alarm went off was because of a juvenile issue. The second time was because of a technical issue.
  • A new railing has been installed at the student bus stop in front of the school. This will help keep students where they’re supposed to be, as well as off the new landscaped area.
  • Mr. Norbutas met with Becky Reed to discuss a May date for Hall’s Talent Show. The actual day has not been decided yet. They are also trying to pinpoint a schedule for West Side Story, to be directed by Becky Reed in the fall.
  • Vector Classes are starting tomorrow at Hall with fencing. Five or six students have signed up.

Meeting was adjourned at 2:10pm.
